As the quality of readilly available fuel continued to improve during these post war years the engineers at Prince continued to take advantage of this. Higher quality fuel meant that you could run an engine with higher compression without the danger of experiencing knocking in the engine.
The introduction of the Skyline ALSI-2 models saw the introduction of the new upgraded FG4A-40 engine which included a new cylinder head design that increased the compression from 7.5/1 to 8.3/1, resulting in a power increase from 60hp to 70hp. Somewhat cryptically this engine is refered to as the GA4 in some Prince publications.
Apart from the engine modifications little else changed on this model, and the trim and grilles remained largely unchanged. This model was in production from October 1959 until February 1960 when a revised ALSI-2-1 was unveiled.
The ALSIS-2 was the standard sedan model.
The ALSID-2 was the deLuxe version.
The ALSI-2 was available with a larger 1900cc engine and a more luxurious cabin. This version was sold as a different model, the Prince Gloria. Information about this model can be found on the BLSIP-2 Gloria page of this website.
The Skyway ALPE-2 was a 2 door 4 seater pickup version of the ALSI-2. More information about this model can be found on the Prince AIPE-1 page.
Commercial variants were badged as Skyway instead of Skyline. The ALVG-2 Skyway is the delivery van version. More information about this model can be found in the ALPE page of this website.
